Dear Readers,

As a survivor of Anorexia and Bulimia, I can tell you that the distorted thinking associated with eating disorders never truly leaves you completely. This quickly becomes increasingly discouraging as we continue to see friends and loved ones bond through the shared experience of mealtime. A time for us that may be wrought with overthinking, self-loathing, and insecurity. When an integral part of human living becomes disrupted this can have irreversible effects on our relationship to ourselves and our body.

Indeed, each individual can become susceptible to an eating disorder for various reasons. Some struggle with severe low self-worth or self punishment, while others- like myself- crave and require the sense of control along with the satisfaction of complete anxiety avoidance. Put simply, Eating Disorders are highly psychologically complex and relative to the individual as well as those who love them. It is not something you can simply snap out of, or wake up from, or choose away with. This population requires extreme care, compassion, support, and accountability for their recovery- which may be the only matter over which they have a choice.

When understanding the depths to which disordered eating can dive, contrive, and survive it is no wonder that this phenomenon wreaks havoc on our sense of wellness, relationship to others, and self worth. @blitheSun94 I love this! I've dedicated this summer to self-love and I'm finding it incredibly hard and it's totally a learning process. Whenever a negative thought about myself pops into my head, I say the OPPOSITE out loud and just thinking it and repeating these comments in our heads actually make a huge difference.
