Food Addiction

Hello! I love running and exercising but on days or weeks when I don’t workout I eat excessively. Even if I don’t feel hungry. Just to deal with the boredom or sadness I feel at the time. I swallow my food as if I’m not going to eat for another month. It’s terrible and external circumstances make me feel this is a way of relief. It’s not okay and I know that.

@affableTiger4508

Do you think that there could be a connection between binging and deprivation, or restriction and overeating?

I find that when I restrict or exercise heavily (in order to burn calories or “be good”), I become much more likely to start eating excessively. If I feel deprived, then there is some part of me that wants to rebel and compensate for the restriction.

It sounds like you’re doing some emotional eating as well, which is very common. Eating feels good. We do it to feel better. And It really reminds me of my own reactions to deprivation.

Allowing myself to eat has been the only thing that has helped me, personally. It’s been a long road. It’s ok. What you’re experiencing isn’t wrong; it could be just your body reacting to restrictive habits. Hang in there; it will be ok.
