I'm not sure if I have an eating disorder
Hi, I'm Kitty and I would like to get some help figuring out if I have an eating disorder. I had a period in which I will not eat, and if I ate more than what I thought was okay I would start crying and feel bad. I restricted a lot and worried way too much about how I looked, I thought that after eating I looked fat. That lasted for over a year. I started eating normally again because my boyfriend told me that if I keep up that way of eating he would dump me, so it was hard but I started to eat more. Then, some months later, I started to eat A LOT, I would not feel satisfied with what I eat and binged almost every night. I had a lot of emotional eating. I felt bad because I couldn't stop eating and all I thought about was food. I gained more weight than ever. After feeling bad for almost a year about that, I found my "solution", I started making myself puke after I binged. That didn't make me feel better but it was an improvement for me. But that didn't last for long because my mom found out and she doesn't let me do it anymore. If I was alone in my home after I ate I would puke every time. Now, I started restricting again, like today I didn't eat anything because my mom was not home, I just drank some coffee when she was here. I hope you guys can help me figure out what is happening to me. Every message is appreciated. I will love to hear your thoughts.
@worrykitty While I'm by no means qualified to diagnose an eating disorder, the behaviors you've described are similar to "criteria" for a couple different disorders that I know of. I say "criteria" with quotes because honestly phrasing things that way makes it sound like you have to be "sick enough" or something like that in order to have an eating disorder. What I will say is that if your eating habits make you feel uncomfortable (mentally or physically) or unhealthy that there's definitely more to be explored there. I hope you're well
I don’t know if I can help. I think I have eating disorder too. I’m seeing a psychiatrist and watching mindfulness eating videos. If you want to talk I’m here. I think both should try psychiatrist and try to live ourselves more.
