When is it considered an ED?

I know I've had a bad mindset around food and weight but recently it's gotten worse and I don't know if it'd be classified as an eating disorder/bulimia because I haven't had major weight loss

@Rosecow101

I'm sorry that things seem to be getting worse, and that it's confusing and conflicting for you in regards to recognizing if you "really" have a problem. Eating disorders are very tricky illnesses in that they often tell us we aren't sick or aren't sick enough or don't deserve help because we don't meet x y z criteria.

Only a licensed professional (doctor, therapist, dietician, etc) can formally diagnose you, but I think reaching out here and making this post is an indication that even if a formal diagnosis of an eating disorder isn't applicable to you, you are still struggling with some unhelpful and disordered habits and thoughts that are worthy of care and treatment.

I would take this with a grain of salt, but these are some of the diagnostic criteria for different eating disorders based on the DSM-V that clinicians use to diagnose and treat patients. You could also try this screening tool that will tell you if you may benefit from some professional help.

Contrary to popular belief, weight is not the primary factor in whether or not someone has an eating disorder. You can be underweight, average weight, or overweight and be suffering from an eating disorder. The majority of people with eating disorders aren't actually severely underweight or experiencing profound weight loss (though for some this is the case).

Your experience matters! Your struggles matter. If you have any other questions or would like some more resources or even help searching for treatment/providers in the area that you live feel free to let me know.

In the meantime, I'm glad you're here for support and look forward to seeing you around in the community.
