Sometimes it is really helpful to break down what is triggering the disorder, and what purpose it serves you, in order to get help.

By 'writing a letter to your eating' this allows thehealthy part of you, the part that is searching for help, to be in control.

It issimple, I will show an example and if you have noclue where to start, you can use a similar to theexample, or you can go out and write whatever your heart desires.

Make sure you take time and read it after you post it, so the strong part of you can feel stronger.

ex.Dear Mia,

As much as you think you are, you are not my friend. You are destroying my body with every binge and purge I take, both mentally and physically.

Because of you, I no longer enjoy the activities I used to likeswimming, banquets, and family dinners. I feel ashamed of what I do, and can't do the things I lovebecause of it.

However, you are a protection to be. You are something I can control and a security blanket when I meet a group of new people. When you are strong, I feel strong, even though inside I am being torn apart.

Instead of falling for your tricks, thinking you give me control, I can seek control for in other areas of my life, like having control over the healthy choices in my life such as eating more veggies and good pure food. Controlling the fact that eating food will not make me fat, it will make me happy and healthy.

In times of need, when I have nocontrol, or feellike taking a binge/purge, I can contact my friend, my sister, or 7 cups of tea. I will also put myself away from the binging food, and eat healthy food.

Sincerely,

The girl desperate for change

I do not have an eating disorder but am a president of an eating disorder organization on a college campus! Thank you for such a great idea.

Giving this a bump :) I really encourage members (and listeners) to try this out!

I love this idea! For some reason, I expected something else, like writing a letter to the "you" that's deep down inside who doesn't need to feel like they need to starve or purge to be beautiful, but this works too! This reminds me of "facing your fears" in a way.
