Food Avoidance - supporing a loved one
My fiance has expressed that she has a fear of eating, and she has started throwing food away so I wouldn't know she didn't eat it and "forgetting" to bring food to work for lunch (her own confession). It's not body-image related and it is getting past the help of her anti-depressants. From what I've found online, this disorder is new to the DSM-V, so there is very little information out there, and everything I can find pertains to small children.I've read a bit that small, healthy snacks throughout the day instead of meals, and a quiet, calm, sit-down dinner have helped parents with kids that have this issue, so we are going to try to implement that at home. We are working on getting her a therapist we can afford as well. Most cost too much even with her insurance.Does anyone know any otherresources that would help, or would help me support her?
Hi @niceWheel92! I hope you and your closed ones are feeling fine, lovely. You post this a year ago, but there is something in your text that made me reply to it after such a long time.
I also struggle with food avoidance / selective eating disorder (SED) and I know how difficult and misunderstood is this disorder. There is not a lot resources out there, unfortunately I am aware of that. I've started a thread on it for people who look for more information or for the support. Maybe it is something which will still interest you.
All the best!
