im new to this and i just started reading this thread. i have some sort of eating disorder. like i grew up my whole life with my mother calling me fat. i don’t think im fat. like im not skinny but im not fat but i also have days where i look at myself and i think i am or i see a picture and i think i am. and due to all that i make myself throw up as much as possible. like i dont rlly binge ill just eat a regular meal and feel gross so ill yack it out and i feel better. been doing this for maybe 5 years now. and idk y but like i feel like theres nothing wrong w it like i dont deprive myself of stuff but ill feel guilty and like i go through periods where i crave fast food but i eat relatively healthy idk. i’m 5’4-5’5 and my weigh fluctuates around 160lbs to 170lbs. idk i don’t love my chin or arms or back. my stomach bothers me sometimes when im bloated. i feel great and then i dont. idk.

hii!! first, I’d love to give you the warmest welcome to 7 Cups and this amazing, supportive community. I am honestly so happy you’re here and beginning your journey toward receiving care, support, and connection. You truly deserve to feel heard and supported, and I hope you feel safe here. <3
I’m really sorry to hear that you’re feeling like you might be struggling with an eating disorder. That’s such a heavy thing to carry, and it means a lot that you’re willing to open up about it. That takes so much strength, and I just want to say how much I admire your bravery for reaching out and being honest about how you’re feeling.
The most helpful thing I can gently suggest is speaking to a professional, like a psychologist or psychiatrist, who can give you the care and guidance you need. If it feels safe to do so, reaching out to a parent or trusted adult could also be an important step in receiving an offical diangosis.
I’m so sorry your mother used a hurtful word toward you. That kind of language can be incredibly painful, especially coming from someone close to you. Please remember, though, that what she said does not define you. You are so much more than any label or comment, and I’m really sorry you were made to feel otherwise. That really isn't easy.
Something that’s really important, and I know a lot of people don’t always hear this: eating disorders are not just about weight. Of course, weight can be a piece of it, but it goes much deeper than that. People of all shapes and sizes can experience an eating disorder, and that’s why it’s called an eating disorder, not a weight disorder.
I’m really sorry that you’ve been struggling with body image also. That can be so hard and uncomfortable to deal with, and it often feels so isolating. If you’re throwing up food on purpose regularly, that is definitely something to take seriously, and I just want to gently say that this can be a sign of a deeper struggle. It also sounds like this has been going on for a long time, and I want you to know it’s never too late to step in and take back your life.
Just a gentle note, and not to scare you, but purging and not getting enough nutrients can affect your health in some serious ways over time, especially things like your stomach lining and esophagus. If you’re able, I really recommend seeing a doctor or healthcare provider who can help you check in on your body and keep you safe as you move forward in recovery.
I also want to say, I’m really sorry that you don’t always see your body in a positive light. That’s such a painful experience, and I hear you. But you are human, and being human is already beautiful. Every body has its own shape, its own features, and every single one is worthy of love and care. Life is way too precious to spend it picking ourselves apart. There is so much more to you than what you see in the mirror.
Just a quick note since you’re new to the community also, sharing weight specifics can sometimes be triggering to others who are also working through similar things. You absolutely didn’t do anything wrong, and I know it’s a common topic in other spaces. We’re just extra mindful here so we can keep this a really safe and encouraging space for everyone
You deserve so much happiness. You deserve freedom from this. You deserve to enjoy a day where eating feels peaceful, and afterward, you feel proud and okay, not guilty or anxious. I truly believe that with support, time, and compassion toward yourself, healing is absolutely possible for you.
Body image struggles are so common, but they don’t have to last forever. I know how painful it is to feel so uncomfortable in your own skin, and to keep searching for a way out. But you are already taking steps forward, and I see you!!
You are strong. You are valuable. You are beautiful exactly as you are. And you are so loved.
