my girlfriend has an eating disorder and i dont know how to help her

sometimes i worry i push her too much and ask her to eat too often, so i try not to. i just ask her how shes doing today and whether she has eaten anything. she says she doesnt have an eating disorder but everything she has told me, and everything ive seen has told me otherwise.

i just want to help her but i dont know how

@plutocowboy

It's clear you love her and are a caring and supportive partner.

Just keep the lines of communication open and let her know, you are there for her, and be gentle , it's all you can do, until she might feel ready to share 💚

i love that you care so much about wanting to help her. that shows just how much you love her. as someone with an eating disorder, i too have a partner who knows and does his best to get me to at least eat something every day. the best thing you can do is just keep a line of communication open for her. invite her to talk about her struggles if she wishes, and when she does, try not to judge. a lot of eating disorder thoughts do not make logical sense to the normal brain but are very real to the sufferer. keep it up, you are doing great <3

thank you for the advice! she definitely seems to have been getting better lately, but i know eating disorders aren't always linear and there are ups and downs. so i will just continue offering her a safe space to talk and the rest of your advice,thank you

idk how serious you guys are but I once heard a situation with a married couple kind of like this. The man wanted to tell his wife how he felt about her eating disorder but didn’t want to hurt her feelings. He knew it was effecting her health and a persons health severely effects their lifespan most of the time. So the man told his wife, “I love you so much that I want you for a life time and not any less.” My advise would be to let her know how much you care about her tell her you want to be with her for life and hopefully that will help her value her health over her looks.
