Yes, from german trampen meaning vafabond or just hiker...they spend their time carving things with their knives but you find tramp art from germany to france and all the way down to spain...when people had pocket knives...old times...

It means wanderers. If you wander and have no money but a pocket knife in your trousers you strive to carve beautiful small furniture (cabinets, boxes) to sell in the next village or town to buy your food or bear necessities...such was life once upon a time...

I dd but my carving art was mountain art on mountain canes and sticks...whistles...wooden knives...
