Hunting and Gathering
I’m reading the young readers’ edition of The Omnivore’s Dilemma, and it’s really making me think. So, here are some questions for you!
***Please be mindful and respectful.*** We all have differing beliefs and opinions, and that’s ok! We all have valuable input and thoughts <3
Have you ever hunted and gathered your own food? Animals, plants, mushrooms, etc?
What are your thoughts on buying local?
Do you think local farms, rather than factory farms, are a sustainable and viable option?
Did you ever realize how much corn is in much of our food, including non-food items such as batteries, candles, sandpaper, and soap?
Have you tasted foods from each of the categories: Factory/mainstream, organic, local, and foraged/hunted? Is there a taste difference?
Do you eat seasonally?
Again, please be gentle and kind and considerate. This is just a gentle discussion about our food, animals, plants, and our world <3

Interesting discussion.
I haven't gathered or grown my own food, but would fancy myself as a wee hunter, gatherer 😁
I like to eat locally sourced food, directly from farmers, don't mind spending extra.
It's important for me to support my local community and local farmers and have fresh produce that I know where it has come from 💜💕

1. Have you ever hunted and gathered your own food? Animals, plants, mushrooms, etc?
I never hunted, but part of my mom's family has a farm, growing their own food and raising some livestock for meat. They share with us too. We also ocassionally found a few mushrooms or berries, but it's rare and was much more of a childhood thing.
What are your thoughts on buying local?
I'm terrified of outdoor markets due to wasps, but if there was a way to have a wasp free market, I would love the cottage core vibes. My brother and dad however like to shop on the market sometimes, to keep things fresh and healthy. On a bigger scale, we prefer to buy products that are from our country to support our business.
Do you think local farms, rather than factory farms, are a sustainable and viable option?
I think the best is to balance things out, since most local farms won't be able to produce all the food the people need, or make the prices as affordable as the big farm companies, but they also should make up a fair size of the market, so people can decide what works the best for them and their families.
Did you ever realize how much corn is in much of our food, including non-food items such as batteries, candles, sandpaper, and soap?
Well, never thought about it, but I have no grudges against corn yet 😁🌽
Have you tasted foods from each of the categories: Factory/mainstream, organic, local, and foraged/hunted? Is there a taste difference?
Home grown is always better when compared to big farm or imported products, especially when it comes to fruits and veggies.
Do you eat seasonally?
I try to, but I keep failing it 😂
