Influence

Icebreaker time!

I saw this question and thought it was really interesting: Who had a big influence on you as a kid or a teenager?

I think a lot of people may want to say their parents, which I totally agree, but I think I want to ask this question besides immediate family.

For me, I think it would have to be some of my teachers! I've always been a teacher's pet, so they always had a lot of influence over me.

What about you?

Love this question! And it really made me think! I would have to say my soccer coach in high school. She played professionally before starting her coaching career. She was so motivated and talented, but never let her success get to her head. And she was always willing to help refine skills with us or just chat about our performance.

She really showed me how you can be super successful yet humble and helpful!

Said as charitably as I can, my parents definitely had, and still have, their issues. So, while they certainly had their influence(s) on me, it wasn't for the best. 😂

That being said though, the upshot of this was that one of my biggest influences was my English (and creative writing) teacher, Mr. Zihuatanejo. He has since retired from teaching and actually travels the world as a poet.

But yeah, from his passion for literature and poetry, to his integrity as a person, Joaquin (his first name) taught me more than he ever realized.

I have to say my pastor! He was super charismatic and whatever he said I remember being very thought-provoked by his words. Although, I come along way, I think I still have a lot of some characteristics and viewpoints that I share similar with him from long ago.
