IGNIRED?

February 15th, 2015

Who else feel ignored here? i know that chat is freakin' fast etc but mant times there are just 3-5ppl and they talk to each other and simply and cleary ignore you. This site should help but very often puts people down. i think that there shoud be avaible chat between memebers. 1to1 but between memebers not just memeber and listener. Also in chats like "depression support" we shouldnt talk about how great our day is. cos this is place to get a support. many times i needed support and in such room i have been ignored cos some guys were talking abot their great day. for "great day"talks there is waiting room. anyways. this post will be probably also igbored but if ANYONE AGREE plz comment. maybe we becime friends or at least talk.

I can see where you are coming from and know that at busy times when the chat is moving fast this is a real issue. It should not be this way but if you need more individual support and attention at this time it's best to connect to a listener on a 1-1 basis. When you mention that in depression support you feel that the nature of the conversation would be better suited to the waiting room I wish to offer a explanation rather than an excuse. There are many groups of members ot if you like cliques here, they tend to know each other well (sometimes also interacting via listener accounts or even offsite though this is not recommend). However they tend to dominate the chat in a particular room even if there main issue relates they also like to discuss day to day concerns and almost soicalise here. I hope that makes sense and I am sorry you feel ignored.

There are thousands of listeners here and I do know that many are not ideal (I myself am far from perfect) but often it is worth considering what it is you would like from a chat before entering one. For example some people prefer just to vent or be heard while others would prefer us to talk them down from a high anxiety state or talk them through options or to give objective opinions. Then keep going through listeners (it often is more successful if you make personal requests or even message listeners who are offline to set up appointments).

Once again I am sorry this has been your experience, seeing your profile I can tell you have been quite involved in the community in the short time you have been here. I have been here since April both on the listener and member side and would suggest that though sadly experiences like this can happen they are the exception rather than the norm in 1-1 chats. Maybe consider asking if anyone knows of a good listener who is willing to take on long term members to decrease the frequency of such experiences or if you wish to seek alternative support if you are not already I wish you the best :)

I cantotally relate, Octopus. Like sometimes in the support chat or group chats, they'll be talking about random stuff like food and music. That makes me feel like if I were to talk about any issues I'm having, they're going to be disappointed that their fun is over and that they have to help me-.-I always see people desperatelyasking for help in those chats and some people, if notall, will ignore them. It's calleda group support for a reason people! Listeners are either busy or they don't even respond. Or even worse, they're not even helpful. I swear, the amount of listeners that haven't answered me is too many to count.

@Octopus and @proactivePomegranate62 : sorry about the bad experiences you have had. Agree it is frustrating /annoying when you go to a place with a hope that you can find someone to hear/help you out and you dont get that.

Like @Miracle mentioned, if there is something that has to be dicussed in length, 1-1 is the best place. Your regular listner closed account -maybe for self care which as we all know is important too. You can try sorting the listners by review and talk to one with the best reviews? would that help?

About people talking of having a great day in depression room, here is my take ( I might be completely wrong). I personally think it is ok to talk about nice things in this room as well. Just because it is called "depression room" it does not have to be sad talks all the time. As rightly pointed by @miracle, people bond over time in this site and they feel connected. May be this gives them the comfort level to open up and talk about th nice things in life as well, which for me is a positive sign. Having positive vibes in the room is always good.

However, I am totaly in agreeement that we as listeners must not make a fellow listener/guest/member feel ignored when they come in. especially if it is just 3-5 members. I would try pitching in and talk about whatever the topic is.... and see how it goes.

PS : sorry about the lenghty response. Maybe my way of telling you, you do not have to feel ignored and that you are NOT?! :)

Cheers buddy! together we can make this a better place. inputs such as your post is what makes others realise what they might have missed doing!

Hey guys! I'm kind of new to the member community, so it's nice to meet you all! I'm Vicky! Reading this, I've felt the same way sometimes. It really makes you feel a little uncomfortable to see everyone chatting without really including you in the conversation, at least that's how I've felt. What has helped me, is to join the conversation and be there for the people who actually need it and support is always great. Of course, that's from my part, which is that I currently don't need the support that some of you might need, thankfully. But I try to be there and incorporate myself into the conversation as much as I can! I hope you guys can do that too! Love, Vickyheart
