Requirement of an emergency protocol.

January 26th, 2015

As suggested by the dear @owlie and @cindysue46 I am writing this thread to request some sort of clarity in dealing with some situations like the one that arose on 23rd January and 24 th januarysaturday. The situation was that any member /listener /guest who was posting in the waiting room, depression support or share your story was getting muted we know of 32 people who were muted many more may have been we dont know ,so it was decided to shut the rooms unofficially by asking everyone to stay away from the rooms agreed it seems a bit extreme but we feel that it did minimize the damage .In all honesty this does set a wrong precedent of everyone acting on their own without any cohesion or any official way of dealing with such situation as in such a large community there is a great probability that everyone may not agree and it wont be possible to reach a consensus as to how we should deal with something similar (irrespective of it being a glitch or a hacker ).Especially when due to the time difference we cant really get in touch with the admins /support .So I would like to request some sort of an emergency protocol which can be established in similar circumstances .

As we are all a large extended family I am sure there will be many who would be ready to help if required and it need not be mentioned regardless of that I will speak for myself that I would if asked help in laying out as well as implementing the same.I would request that such protocol be looked at and if possible be implemented so as to smoothen the functioning .

Thank you.

Thank you so much @poeticguy!! You have such a wonderful way with words! I feel that @owlie had such a good idea when he suggested some form of emergency protocol and/or some form of emergency type notice that could be shown throughout the chat rooms so that everyone is on the same page. There was such confusion, and hesitation, and waiting for word from admin. We are all on such different times around the world, and we all have varied schedules, I think it would be so important to have this type of notification system in place so that we know what we are supposed to do as moderators.

Although we would all like to think that the site is safe, it is important to note that many have manipulated the system of late and it is a real possibility that it could happen again. I dont think it is too much to ask to have such a system in place. Thanks @poeticguy!!! <3<3

Hi poeticguy,

There's already a fewprotocols in place to help deal with spammers and trolls in the chatrooms. The most important one is this forum post onChat Room & Forum Emergencies. It explains what to do and who to contact. When I find myself in that situation,I use theCommunity Emergency form as a last resort, after I've tried reaching Laura, Heather and other mentors. It sends an alert email to all those who can help deal with spammers and such, from what I understand. There's also another great detailed post about How to Deal with Spammers with a few more informative links. Let me know if this is what you were looking for :) Take care !

Thanks @poeticguy and @CindySue46. You guys really handled the whole situation really well when it happened and wanted to say thank you for that. Also thanks @CindySue46 for mentioning my idea, I just had the thought that it would be awesome if the Mods could make Noni broadcast an emergency message to stay out of the public rooms when there's a mute hack going on. I think it would be useful since a lot of the newer guess and members wouldn't know to go to the forum and wouldn't understand why they got muted.
