Why Have A Hobby And Follow It?
Hey everybody!
Just thought I'd drop in here and start a discussion about the importance of hobbies in our lives (whether or not they are monetised) - and was hoping to get some perspectives on that!
Here's my ideas:
It helps maintain a sense of self. You can understand yourself better. (Helps if you need an anchor in life or recovery)
It can be your safe space - where you just - are. No expectations. No performances. No nothing.
It can be a way to express yourself and not stay bottled up with emotions.
It can be your way to give back to the community. (Even a happy and content individual is an asset - they are inspiring and give others hope too)
It can be a way to get community or a family-away-from-family. It is a very effective way to make friends and be engaged with people. (Remember, Human beings are social animals)
It can be your way to explore the world - your point if view or reference lens. (Like architects, historians, politicians, engineers, painters - all see a city in a different way because they can recognise different things. That is valuable perspective - both for direct and indirect value addition.)
It can be the thing that leads you to get authority, money, status, recognition, etc in the community.
It helps you be a better person to live with in general. (People with long suppressed hopes and dreams tend to turn into frustrated and angry beings)
You can be a mentor, a source of joy, someone who is motivated by something other than the work system.

I think hobbies are so important, especially to teens. They allow for a community, a place for people to be themselves, and allow some freedom when other parts of life seem a little too tough.
@ButterflyBuddy You missed out for fun lol! But, Can a hobby be monetised? Is it still a hobby then? I am not so sure, isn't it then going towards a business even if it is a penny business?
