hi everyone!

i'm wondering, are any of you learning a language as a hobby? which one? and why?

language learning is my hobby. i haven't been able to do it for some time because school and other things got in the way. i want to get back on this hobby though, because lately i haven't been doing anything i enjoy (except watching tv).

anyways, i'd love to see if anyone else has the same hobby! also, this is my first thread (sorry if this has already been done recently), hope it's okay!

:)

I've been thinking about it for a while, and I believe it's a great hobby to have. After I learned about language learning with lingopie, I understood that it can be pretty entertaining as well, so I'll definitely consider getting into that. But I'm not sure if I'll be able to learn more than two languages.

I learn languages as a hobby! I’m learning somewhere around 28 right now! Obviously, not quickly by any means. I know the most of Spanish and Mandarin, but I’ve learned a lot of Swedish, Hawaiian, Japanese, and Italian in the last few days.

I don’t have a reason for learning them, I just like it. Plus I think it would be cool to be able to read and write with people from all over the world. And I’m good at recognizing patterns, so most languages make sense to me structurally. Makes it easier for me to learn.

@faron Yes, I love learning languages, my cousin is fluent in 5 languages, and I also have a friend that speaks 5 languages (probably both speaking and writing). I find it fascinating to learn the way how people think in different languages. I only speak 2 languages now, but my goal is to be able to speak/listen at least 5 languages (and maybe read and write later haha)

I'm studying English now, but my main task is to speak modern and lively English, not the language that I learned at the university. In many ways, it was difficult for me to understand exactly how to use different emojis, because their meaning can change depending on the language. I love articles like this one https://promova.com/blog/how-to-speak-with-emojis because all the information I need is in one source.

@faron

I had started to learn Spanish, for various reasons, and would like to get back into it! So many interests and so little time, but Duolingo has great short sessions and I think I might get back into it.

It's a great hobby I think, for me personally I have a daughter who is bilingual and I'd love to learn just to help her keep up with it, although she teaches me at this point lol
