Does music impact your well-being, learning, cognitive function, quality of life, and happiness? A survey on music and brain health by AARP revealed some interesting findings on the effects of music on cognitive and emotional well-being:

  • Music listeners reported higher mental well-being, slightly lowered levels of anxiety and depression.
  • Active musical engagement was associated with higher rates of happiness and good cognitive function even in people above 50 years old.
  • Even adults who were not exposed to music in their childhood but who currently engage in some music appreciation showed above-average mental well-being scores.
  • People who actively listened to music showed the strongest brain benefits, however, even those who primarily listened to background music reported benefits.

Discussion:

Have you heard of any other benefits of music or noticed it yourself?

How can you incorporate more music into your life?

What song can always cheer you up?

I've found that certain artists songs help with my mental processes and processing what I'm feeling. As far as music types chillstep usually helps me relax and filter out the b.s. of being alive

@Scartissue54

What kind of music helps you with processing what you are feeling? Is it a song with lyrics that matches your emotions or something else?

Typically I'll put on an artist, like Eyedea & Abilities and somehow some way the beat and the lyrics mesh so well and something Eyedea says just clicks

Hey @globalBraid3744!

Great post! As someone who's grown through playing various instruments in my life, music has been a pretty important part of my life!

Have you heard of any other benefits of music or noticed it yourself?

Personally ambiance music such as lofi and chill can really help me get through a session of studying. Additionally certain songs I use to understand and be in my emotions more through hard and happy times!

How can you incorporate more music into your life?

I personally have a spotify account and I listen to music quite a bit. When I exercise, study and even walk to class I'll be listening to something.

What song can always cheer you up?

I love my hip-hop. Hearing a beat and my favorite rappers can always get me up and going for a day.

@globalBraid3744 I feel like music helps me study. I have a hard time staying in one place and the headphones plugged into my laptop prevents me from leaving.

This is a great hack! I also usually have my headphones when studying even if I do not have any song on but I never thought that it can help me to stay in one place haha. What kind of music do you like to listen to while studying?
