Historical Miniature Tabletop Wargaming Diorama

Hey everyone

So I felt like sharing a recent new hobby I am getting excited about since I don't really have anyone outside of my small family to talk about this to at the moment.

I had previously been a Miniatures painted in Warhammer and Lord of the Rings franchises from Games Workshop. I got into this when I was an early teen and tried to get back into it in my mid-teens. However, since I wasn't really a gamer and only painted the miniatures myself it soon faded.

Now I want to get into Historical Wargaming (except yet again, probably not the gaming aspect, only the painting and collecting).

I want to create a 100cm x 60cm Historical Military Miniature Tabletop diaroma.

My area of focus (which I will also be reading books about) is the American Revolutionary War/American War of Independence (1775 - 1783)

I am a lover of history and surprisingly this is one of the few eras I don't know much about (including the Napoleonic, even though I even visited Waterloo).

For some reason, I sort of skipped over this era so am excited to be visiting it now.

This interest may have been sparked by the recent 5 seasons of TV Series 'Poldark' (as the protagonist, Ross Poldark returns to England from America after serving in this war). I even got the 12 book collection of this fictional story the series is based on (and am enjoying book 2 currently). And I will have 3 non-fiction books on their way to educate myself about it properly. I have also always loved the film 'The Patriot' with Mel Gibson. Also, I recently watched Stanley Kubrick's 'Barry Lyndon' which is set in this period. Also, I have always loved 'The Last of the Mohicans' (which is set in the French-Indian War which was not so far apart from this area of interest).

Being British, I am interested to study a war we actually lost. From a strategic standpoint as well as just interest.

Anyway, I have my first small regiment of miniature soldiers arriving soon. As well as all the needed hobby equipment on the way. And soon I shall be treating myself to some scenery, a tabletop, and a few more miniatures, as well as a Historical Wargaming Magazine subscription, to really enjoy getting myself into a new hobby (since it's been a loooooong time since I've immersed myself in a hobby).

I am hoping to enjoy this hobby over the coming months and years. Hopefully it will give me something productive to keep my mind busy during lockdown/quarantine too...

Not sure why I started this thread. I guess I just felt like sharing my excitement and discovering a new hobby and historical period that I really know nothing about.

@magneticShoulder3193 Thanks - I'm excited to receive my first box of goodies in the post soon. I shall then put another order in and I'll have everything I need. And I'll take my time over the next 4 months to enjoy making my first Historical Miniature Diorama :)

I love getting into a new hobby!

The first historical book I'm reading on the subject is 'Almost A Miracle: The American Victory in the War of Independence' by John Ferling. It's around 600 pages and I'm really enjoying it.

It also makes me glad to have Reading as a hobby and I'm glad I'm getting back into Historical Non-Fiction Books!
