Hobbies give me Purpose
Hi.
I apologize if this is not applicable to this community. I would like to express that it almost appears as if my hobbies and interests seem to contribute purpose and beauty to my life to the point of me feeling empty or unfulfilled or without them. It's not so extreme as to the extent of I am my hobbies, but more like my hobbies and interests are an integral part to who I am as a person.
It is in my hobbies and interests in which I find a comforting and fulfilling sense of focused flow. Without such a focus, my mind quickly sinks into a pool of anxious and depressive thoughts. It is through the mindset on being focused on not just hobbies, but also responsibilities that I feel I function best.
What frustrates me on the interent (not 7 Cups) is when people seem quick to coin the terms "distraction" or "short-term relief" in relation to the hobbies. Fine, I might be technically distracting myself, but I do also take the time to acknowledge and process my anxieties by journaling, which I consider to be a hobby of mine. I almost view coping with my anxiety with hobbies as a response to potential root causes for my anxiety, but that concerns much more complicated reasons which I do not have evidence for yet.
Despite my last thought- Please, can anyone relate to this?
Thank you.
@hegilbert I can understand this! Hobbies can be very helpful :)
