Letter to My Dad
Hi Dad
I'm doing well. Work is going great and I've been thinking about a lot of things from my past and making sense of it. This has been helpful for me for therapy. I'm doing a lot of work on myself and it's very hard but good.
What I need from you is to listen to me without any knee-jerk/auto reactions and to try to understand my experiences. I feel as if I'm put into a box in the family. What I mean is that I feel as if I was/am labeled and treated as disturbed and angry. I want you to know that these assumptions are painful. And it hurts every time it happens. Which, in turn, makes me angry and fulfills that vicious cycle.
There have been too many assumptions about me and who I am with too few questions asked. I want you to truly try to understand me. If you work on listening to me more and understanding my experiences, I will do my part by sharing more about myself with you.
thank you for sharing! it's great to get it all out when you have nowhere to. so you always have us. ly :)
I'll email him this sometime this week. I drafted it with my therapist. We'll see how it goes...
good luck. i hope it gets well. tell us here how it goes/how it was![]()
