Living with an Alcoholic
I'm new here...I joined today because I've been looking for some kind of support system. I have two children and work full time, so finding an Al Anon group isn't really an option right now. I've been with the same man for seven years....Up until about a year and a half ago, he was what most would consider a functional alcoholic. Then he was fired from his job because he'd spent time drinking in the evenings rather than preparing lessons or grading (he was a college instructor). Then he received a DUI, and since then there's not been a lot of "functioning" going on. I can't do it anymore, and I have told him as much. Since then, he swings between begging me to give him another chance and monitoring every single conversation I have with anyone else. I have deleted my social media accounts because it was too stressful trying to convince him I wasn't doing anything wrong, but now, somehow, he has access to any notification I receive. When I'm not feeling guilty for abandoning him, I have panic attacks because I feel like I'm constantly being "listened in on". Not sure what to do at this point, so I thought I'd start here.

Until he takes full responsibility for his own behaviour, nothing will change.
Until you take full responsibility for your future, you will remain stuck, and probably lonely.
Sorry, but that's how I see it.
