MIL came to stay 3 years ago while she got back on her feet. Still no plans on the table for that or any level of communication about rebuilding anytime soon. Patience is at 0 now, just trying to keep composure for my spouse and keep faith the MIL will eventually want some independence!

@User12345678 , a challenging situation indeed. Mmm.. First of allow me to say:" You are kind and compassionate, A big pat on your shoulder." You have been caring and sharing your life with her for the past three years and that takes lots of patience tolerance, compassion and love. That itself is a form/act of charity/kindness and you were able to do it all these years.

I could see the lethargy and challenge you are experiencing presently ,in your words. Have tried talking about it with your husband ? perhaps as you both talk , you could explore the various possibilities that might make it a bit more easier for you.

Thank you for the kind words. Yes I have talked to my spouse about it, the unfortunate issue is there is alot of past trauma between my spouse and their mother. My spouse is reluctant to push the issue as the MIL tends to just stop talking to them at all when they don't see eye to eye. The MIL left when my spouse was young and it has been rocky ever since. Part of my heart goes out to my spouse as I understand how they have spent years trying to build a relationship with their mother and doesn't want to do anything that may upset them, but the other part wishes my MIL would do the right thing and start making plans or at least goals for moving forward on her own self sufficiency.
