One Year Ago Today

This is a thread for anyone who feels nostalgic of a particular time in the past, be it for a time exactly one year ago or for any other time. Feel free to write what you are nostalgic about and share it here if you want to. Maybe writing about it will help dealing with nostalgia.

Well, one year ago today, I was in Baltimore, the U.S. I have just moved out from my apartment to a friend's house and was feeling a bit stressed out about moving out (though looking back, that period really was the good old days). That day was rainy and somehow my new home felt gloomy and foreign. I felt a bit homesick of my apartment that I just left and felt sad that I had to leave behind some of my neighbors there. I also had to purchase some furnitures because my room did not have anything, except for a sleeping bag I brought. Soon though, I started making new friends there and adapted to the new location. I found out a restaurant I like and a good cafe in which I met a girl about five months later. We liked each other, but things did not work out. Things got worse when I returned to my home country in Asia and we lost contact. I don't know where she is right now but I hope that she is doing well wherever she may be.

Today has been really rough for me because I kept checking my watch and compared what I do now to what I did last year. I have made new friends here in my hometown, but I still can't help feeling nostalgic about last year. I want to return to last year so badly. I keep wishing that I will see her again and make things right.

Sorry for the rant, I just need to get it out of my chest.

@SnailPurple Hello there. I am feeling much better now. I think I have overcome the most difficult part of reverse culture shock/repatriation shock. Thanks you for your attention. I really value your reply. I hope you are doing well wherever you are.

@brightPenguin4569

What you feel is understable, losing someome once dear to you is not something you simply forget, they have been here and formed you into person you are today. I think it means that they are always with us. How they smiled what coffee they liked. They gave us beautiful ul times, unfortunately these times won't come back. I think they are a gift, that we will always carry with us. I hope you are feeling okay ❤️

@OldSerendipityBoat Thanks for your comment. Sometimes the past does feel sweeter than the present, doesn't it?
