Prejudice, Homophobia, and Racism ..

Michael Jordan once said, "I understand I am black, but I think I should be categorized by my accomplishments as a human being and not the emphasis that I'm a BLACK NBA superstar" .. And the racist white people still sport the Nike Jordan's .. I am just so sick and tired of this new generation's view on people. Discrimination against race, religion, gender, sexual preference, income, status, disability .. everything! When will this end? I am white, married to a Mexican immigrant, and I am a mechanic. Oh and I also have epilepsy! I have been criticized/discriminated against many times .. but it has gotten to the point where I feel that people who even take the effort to pass judgment before getting to know the person and just make assumptions are severely insecure or just jealous. A special poem from one of my favorite poets, ShelSilverstien :

Invitation

If you are a dreamer, come in,
If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,
A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer?
If you?re a pretender, come sit by my fire
For we have some flax-golden tales to spin.
Come in!
Come in!

I wish everyone looked at life more open minded and excepted each other for who they were on the inside, not based on materialistic/status/appearance crap.

Completely agree with you on this, you wouldn't believe how much prejudice and stereotyping autistic people have to deal with. Just today, I was asked, " can you speak and write in English? " of course I can! I'm not an invalid for God's sake. And the worst part is that it was a government employee too! When will it end?

That bothersme very much as well. My little brother has had autism and ADHD since he was a child, now he's 28, but I've seen/heard so many people/teachers/social workers treat him as though he's a complete idiot and like there's no hope! You cannot make an assumption just b/c the person has a label now. Maybe it makes the other person feel better .. But you know what? Confidence is a killer. If you show that you are comfortable w/yourself and confident in who you are, then the opinions of others won't even matter. :)

I think there is a lot of ignorance too. Well intentioned people may ask the wrong questions, and I am thinking on myself.... I only know there are many kinds of autism, but other than that, I know nothing, and I may ask the wrong question sometimes. Regarding your comment, being a government's employee doesn't guarantee the person is informed. :)

They legalized same-sex marriages in all of the US today. Some people are against it regarding religious beliefs, but if you really read the Bible in depth, women were always bi-sexual.

I have friend who lives in America, he's halfkorean and recently has been subjected to the most disgusting racial abuse. I mean why is there a need to hate one another because we are of a different race, of sexuality or creed? This world is just disturbing at times. We are all the same inside, we have the same organs, same soul, same feelings, same urges, same ambitions, so what's the difference? It doesn't matter what race/sexuality/faith you have, you should be proud!
