Why do people misunderstand anxiety so much?!
In ALL honesty, those of us with anxiety don't care about controlling ANYTHING!
Are we NOT allowed to feel fear?
Are we NOT allowed to be afraid?!
Are we NOT allowed to feel some level of existential dread/fear for our lives?!
Take for example my fear of what Russia is doing vis-a-vis Ukraine/Being afraid of China..
Time and time again..it's all the same thing..
"You can't control anything"
...Three things:
1-I KNOW I CAN'T CONTROL THINGS. I'M NOT GOD.
2.I AM NOT a machine! there are these things called "feelings,emotions,fear,",etc..look them up! You'll improve yourself by quite a bit!
3.Who the blue hell WANTS to control this bloody madhouse of a world?! I just want to see If my younger family members/myself will have a goddamn future(and maybe start preparing to ride out a nuclear war)!
What is SO wrong with being afraid? WE'RE HUMAN BEINGS FOR GOD'S SAKE!! WE'RE ONLY FLESH AND BLOOD! WE'RE NOT MACHINES! WE'RE NOT FRICKING TERMINATORS!
This whole "you can't control X/Y/Z" stuff REALLY pisses me off something fierce.
It's like not only do people REFUSE to understand anxiety, but it's like we're not even allowed to feel what we feel without having people be condescending/patronizing towards us.
Shit like this is why I hate people.
@ADX98927, I do agree with you on how many people around us misunderstand anxiety. Anxiety is a good warning signal for us to check up on something which is worrying us or which we feel is not right. It is just a natural process of worrying and sometimes this worrying lingers longer and occupies our mind. Occasionally it might dominate our thoughts so much that it becomes a pattern or a way of thinking, hence it becomes a habit. Apprehensiveness or worrying becomes the first thought when we look at anything, from simple household chores to daily activities right to the world. It is projected into our every thought. It seeps into our emotions, feelings, reaction and responses but just like how we reason out with a child, with patience and gentleness, we have to reason out with our anxiety too.
