Caribbean State of Mind
This thread is my Caribbean girls and guys who have struggled with mental health challenges, but were never able to express this within their homes.
We are such an amazing, strong people- but our strength slowly dwindles the more we suppress and neglect our internal pain.
Culturally, it’s tough - being us, in a world constantly changing to address elephants in the room while our ancient traditions of avoidance gatekeep our traumas, dramas, and mental conflicts.
I love being from where I’m from, but I fear that things will not change. When you speak up, to challenge societal norms - you become (the issue, so disrespectful, too sensitive) the black sheep in the family. But the goal is not to stir the pot. The goal is to strain out the debris that this uncleansed pot has cooked for generations in.
Cheers to my Caribbean trailblazers and change makers - we got this!
I hope this inspired you today 💚
