Overt racism in the 21st century still hurts

I'm taken aback by how openly people express cheap racist jokes against black people online and how frequently. Like it's accepted and acceptable.

Almost as if non-blacks, including Indians and Asians, as well as whites, as I have observed, have a monopoly on the internet or something. Such that nobody even questions it or objects to it most of the time. When they do, and if it's a black person, they are seen as insecure, over-reacting, self-absorbed, or proving the racists point. Very rudimentary gaslighting.

It would be one thing if the jokes and remarks and memes were intelligent and witty. But they're very often basic low grade expressions of derogatory slurs or sometimes, just the actual slur itself outright, or prejudicial stereotypes on its own. Often irrelevant and unsupported in the given context.

This seems to apply universally on the internet in my experience, and I regret to say, although truthfully and not just on my own account, even in places where you'd least expect to find it like on 7cups.

Technically I am black myself, and in my country classified as mixed race, so it's admittedly quite disheartening and hurtful to see when I do.

It's hurtful on behalf of my fellow black peers. And it's extremely dissapointing on behalf of my fellow white, Indian and other Asian peers whom I share genetic heritage with too.

It's real and it's sad.

This is not about what is true concerning the merits of race and ethnicity. It's about what is true concerning how we treat one another.

And I'm am afraid we have still a long way to go.

To all my fellow black people who know what I'm talking about, and to all my fellow white and Asian people who also know what I'm talking about, if you have a voice, use it. And use it skillfully. It is necessary.
