honesty signaling
I wanted to make my first thread post about honesty signaling as its something I personally do a lot. for those of you who do not know what that even is (Honest signaling refers to behavior, traits, or communication signals that reliably convey truthful information about an individual's quality, intentions, or state because they are difficult or costly to fake)
In more simple terms for me its the act of admitting that I'm a horrible person in order to make myself seem "less horrible" or at least honest and/or like a good/kind person.
I do this without realizing to this day, calling myself a horrible/bad person knowing that people will take pity on that in order to deal/cope with some of the actions/thoughts that I have and will do.
I find it really interesting that when admitting that you have done a horrible thing or that your a horrible person people will see you as less horrible and maybe even over exaggerating on specific things that you promise or tell a person. when someone openly admits that they are evil it makes them look heroic and honest and like they just have giant self worth issues.
Its a form of reverse psychology I was unknowingly used on my friends, family and relationships that I got into, even strangers as I used to care about the opinions others held on me subconsciously and I'm sure I still do to this day. It was also a way to cope with the horrible thoughts in my head, in a way it was almost like confessing and getting others to tell me that it was ok to have horrible thoughts.
(whats defined as horrible and bad is also highly subjective from person to person but I will leave that for another thread.).
@TrueChaoss
Welcome 🤗
Thank you for posting your first thread 🥰
I understand the new perspective .
But for me personally I think it would be damaging and negative to have a mindset that always told me I was horrible.
I wouldn't see the growth in this.
Honesty for me would be taking accountability for when I'm not at my best and navigating how to change it 🤗
