Speech Introduction

Killers. They are all around us. We have all heard of them. Many people wonder, why do people kill? What drives them to commit such an act of violence? Some may believe that killers do it just for fun, some for revenge. But there are many other reasons, some that you may not have thought about. Killers do not just wake up, and think to themselves, “Hm, I want to kill.” It is a series of events, which build up, causing them to kill. There are usually many signs throughout a killer’s life that suggests what they may grow up to be. A child, setting fires, or wetting the bed are examples of the type of events.

Killers are fascinating people, who criminologists have been trying to figure out for years. They tend to be born and made, a product of their environment and their upbringing. Killers are always around us; we just do not know it. I bet you may not have known that on average in your lifetime you walk past 283 killers.

Common Motives:

Many people go straight to the common reason for murder: revenge. But this is not always the case. Many murderers feel that they have a compulsion to kill, that if they do not, something will happen to them. Or some may have their own unique motive altogether. Many people know about common killers, such as Ted Bundy, who killed for the fun he gained from it.

Examples:

But there are lesser-known killers, such as Aileen Wuornos, a prostitute who murdered and robbed seven of her male clients, who do not do it for the fun. Aileen was a product of her environment, beginning to trade sexual favours for money, beer, and cigarettes at the youthful age of eleven. She started this due to her home life; her mother abandoned her, her grandmother an alcoholic and grandfather who was abusive. This is just one example of many killers who have grown up in a toxic environment, causing them to turn out the way they do. Rafael Resendez-Ramirez is another example of the kind of killer who did not kill for fun.

that was a lot..
