Intrusive thoughts. (*TW* just in case!)

Hey guys so ... I woke up this morning to find small fingernail shaped cuts all over my thumb, like I had been squeezing my fingers into it hard as I could with the little sleep I got. I tried last night not to take a panic med (clonazepam) because they have an addictive tendency, and I didn't feel like I was panicking. So once it was about.. 3 am & i still couldn't sleep I decided to take a cbd oil capsule (forgot I had them) I finally fell asleep at 4 am. This was after researching my intrusive thoughts (their subject matter) and how to change myself so that the subject of these thoughts would stop and I would feel better, but they didn't. This was what i obsessed over for 4 hours trying to sleep! Intrusive thoughts that don't have a real logic behind them. Anyway.. I woke up around 9:30am PST and still felt bothered. I usually take a nap before I go to work, and once I woke up from that, I figured out I had bitten my upper lip (inside) during my sleep. Any tips on how to stop subconcious self harm stemming from OCD/intrusive thoughts??? I don't want to keep hurting myself! Thank you for your time.

ALSO - I finally ended up taking the panic medication before work due to a panic attack from the SAME intrusive thoughts I had been avoiding all night, it cleared my mind up right away and I feel better.

Thanks for posting, it's very brave of you. It's really hard to stop subconsciously self harming. As for any involuntary behavior, catching yourself in the act and practicing self control works but takes patience (when you're awake). Gloves could be a temporary fix for your finger nail self harm. And a mouth guard worn on your teeth for biting your lips. I recommend seeking a therapist who specializes with your issues.

@FirstLight4762

Thank you so much!! I will definitely try gloves and night guard. I agree it is hard when I'm awake too because I subconciously think about doing it then it ends up happening. Appreciate your reply I want to work on this as soon as possible !! =) hope you are well!
