Hi there. I'm new and not sure how this works so I'm sorry if things are a little choppy.

my name is ally and I'm 23 years old. Six, almost seven, years of my life have been dedicated to this guy. On and off. We've both had problems, I've known that from the start but, what can I do to stop being angry at him and lashing out at him?

I feel as if I do it because of how much he's hurt me and the things he had put me through. At first, he was the one causing the problems. Doing things I didn't like. Didn't care for my emotions. Now, it's me.

We'll be having a great conversation and then I'll do something I know isnt right or he'll be trying to point out how I hurt him, and I just lose my thoughts and get angry.

im tired of treating this person, and others, like this because I can't control how I feel, somehow.

Hi there Ally,

A very warm welcome here to you! I am really happy you have joined 7Cups and our sub-community and I hope you will receive the support you deserve.

I understand very well how difficult it is for you to deal with your anger. It is such a powerful emotion that can affect us deeply. I think it is very important not to dismiss it, and actually recognize that it is very much ok to feel it. Emotions are always valid, they are there for a reason, but we do have a choice as to how to deal with them. And the more we bring awareness to our emotions and to what triggers them, the more choices we have. How would it feel for you to try and cultivate this awareness? Are you able to see what exactly triggers it? What makes you feel angry when this guy is trying to point out how you hurt him?
