Anger management ideas?
Hey everyone! Lately my most disruptive issue is sudden anger that is SO intense. A lot of the time it is triggered by feeling alienated or insulted by my partner. I feel like I don't have time to use my DBT skills (even the STOP skill!) it happens so fast and suddenly I've yelled (or screamed...or broken something!!) and I'm so embarrassed. Any tips??
@SaltyCashew It can be very difficult not reacting to situations with anger, especially when those situations have always caused that reaction in the past. Applying skills you have learned requires you to take a step back and consider the situation. Finding that space can take time as we're used to instantly reacting to situations rather than considering them and responding. I am sure you already know this since you mentioned the STOP skill. I am not very knowledgeable on the topic so I can't offer much in terms of tips but I would always suggest being patient with yourself, reflecting on what made it difficult to take a step back in any situation, and knowing that you're working on skills that take time for all of us to build. 😊
