Diagnosis?
I am certain that the problems I have had for the past 12 years or so can be determined as bpd. It's so frustrating being told by professionals constantly that it's severe depression. I do have depression, yes, but I feel that it is as a result of untreated bpd and add. I've tried telling health professionals how I feel and how I strongly identify with bpd and I am desperate to be treated with this diagnosis because there are personality traits, ways I act and react, beyond my control and beyond what simply having a fee free sessions of cbt can do to help. What experiences do you all have?
Do you have any other diagnoses that are being treated
Just the depression. I ask for counselling but then have to wait 6 weeks for it to go through and get sorted, and I end up with someone who isn't even fully trained and have lost the momentum to sort myself out by then. Any professional I've seen has been really dismissive of what going on as well. I feel totally stuck.
So speak with your doctor, explain that is how you're feeling, and tell them that you need to see someone who isn't a trainee. You are entitled to see a professional counsellor.
Apparently I have petulant BPD .. I discovered the 4 types here in this forum...
Do you find that it effects your sex drive
Actually it does as well as hatred and feeling tons of love with my emotions towards my hubby too
It wasn't until my counsellor at uni got involved and wrote a letter for me to take to a mental health assessment. I was already diagnosed with anorexia, depression and anxiety, had been for many years but it didn't explain how I felt emotions so intensely, my rapid mood swing, dissociation, paranoia ect. This was this year. Over a year ago I had been diagnosed with bpd but nobody had told me! Apparently the letter got lost, as if! I only found out a month ago about it!
You really have been through the mill , You must be pretty angry about it all . Are you very lonely xx
I'm sorry I totally forgot I had posted if I'm honest. I've had a proper mental health assessment and they keep saying I'm "just" going through depression. I know I'm supposed to take what they say at face value but how can you assess someone after speaking to them for an hour. It makes no sense.
It's okay that you're a bit shocked when you get to know that you have some personality disorder. I was alright, and then they told me that I have narcissistic personality disorder, and because of that I was so sad and then I fell into another depressive episode. Shitty.
Don't feel sorry. What are good sides of BPD ? Think about it. I have mixed BPD and NPD.
I use BPD for excuse if I do some risky things, I know it's not good but it's helpful sometimes, people forgive you easier and you don't feel sorry for yourself. You're like, "Oh, whatever, I have BPD so I can do risky stuff I've always wanted to". I know it's not good to use some disorder for that stuff, but you need to survive, right ? So, why not ?
As you said that you already have severe depressive episode. Don't force yourself that much. Try to take care of yourself as much as you can until feeling of guilt just goes. And it's possible, I tried, I actually tell you all of this from my experience.
You said you tried with CBT. You can search on the internet something about DBT - DialeticalBehavioral Therapy. It is actually created for borderline patients. I hope you'll be alright.

@Mermaidzombie I was told for 23 years I had severe depression and anxiety. I knew it was more than that but I could never explain how I felt. I was diagnosed with BPD in January this year..... I thought receiving a diagnosis would settle me a bit. But it has had the most detrimental affect on me and made me a whole lot worse. CBT is generally not helpful in BPD cases. The preferred therapy is DBT - Dialectical Behavioural Therapy. But you really shouldn't be self diagnosing. I tried that, but got it wrong. You need to find a psychiatrist who will do a whole life assessment.
