Hey

I'm a 18 year old female. I was diagnosed with borderline personality disoder a while back. It was quite a shock & took a while to accept the diagnosis. And thought they was saying my personality is weak and cant cope with life. I still do not agree completely with the diagnosis. Even though it was diagnosed when i was on mental health ward. I also have anorexia but then I dont agree with that either. But starting to realise that my diagnosis' do not define me as a person. And seeking to get DBT.

Thanks for reading

@littlePapaya7379 Hi, papaya and welcome. I hope you get to understand your conditions better, whether or not you meet the creteria of those categories. And realize that they're only categories which are 'constructs,' artificial concepts that are there to help us understand our current state.

You absolutely cannot let any letter from the alphabet define you. Treat it as a diagnosis than a label. If you got asthma or pneumonia, would you go around telling people hi, im asthma? no. So why do people say, oh you're BPD or ADHD or whatever? Well, hopefully you get what I mean.

Anyway dont't treat it as an ID card to hang from your neck, just see what are the symtpoms that affect you related to said diagnosis (and like any disease it can range from mild to severe and be different for everyone), if there are any coping mechanisms that might help you, go for them! Look for ways to be healthy, body healthy and brain healthy. Don't waste your breathe challenging the diagnosis, YOU know yourself best, YOU define who you are. Take care! Hope you figure things out soon :)
