@takemeback1993

The American Psychiatric Association has a list of "checklist" items (It's really long(:) that a professional uses to determine if you might have BPD or not. I'm sure they also use your personal stories. (This is all what I was told from my therapist, so it might be different depending on the professional?)

I hope that helped<3

I agree, @Ariana1214

The checklist can be seen in this document DSM-IV and DSM-5 Criteria for the Personality Disorders. The general criteria are on page 1, and then Borderline begins at the bottom of page 6. Ignore the old DSM-IV criteria on the left. The DSM-5 criteria are current. You can see how complicated it is! This is one reason why you can't diagnose yourself.

Beware websites (and maybe even professionals ) who are still using the old DSM-IV checklist. If you see a list of 9 "traits" that's the out-of-date.list.
