She has told me before I am her fp and I was flattered our friendship meant so much. However now I feel so overwhelmed with her problems and emotions and feelings I understand she needs validation and support but it's so draining on my own mental health. I don't want to hurt her or as I know she's sensitive but how can I voice that I can't take on so much all of the time

@BrightTwilight Hey Bright, it's completely understandable for you to be overwhelmed or drained by her needs. I also understand what you mean about voicing this out to her because I have had similar struggles where it can possibly lead to a long intense argument which just adds to how drained you already are. However, it's important nonetheless to do so because setting boundaries are essential in any relationship at all, especially when you're a fp and they direct a lot of their emotions on you. It helps to be clear about what you want to say, not make it sound too serious, and break it to them very nicely.

People with BPD may struggle to respond well to these discussions but if they're aware of their BPD traits, they tend to come around later with some support. I say all that but it might not even get to that, she might approach it well on the first try! I believe she can find the space to understand you. Good luck! :)
