Opening Up and BPD

How long does it take to open up if you don't have BPD? Do people with BPD open up quicker and expect others to do the same. I've always been kinda private and been with my partner for a year, but they expect that I should be telling them everything. Do I need to be more open after only a year, or does BPD make people open up more and expect the same?

@ladytea

Hi there, as someone with BPD, I find that as soon as I trust someone, I will share everything very quickly with them (and probably regret it later) but I know that other Borderlines might be more guarded with their feelings because of their experiences. There shouldn't be any pressure on you to open up until you are ready but equally try not to judge your partner (who from your post might have a BPD diagnosis?) for being very open and trusting.

Hope this helps

@Starlight73 Thank you for your insight. I don't mind him being fully open with me. But because he is, he gets upset that he doesn't know everything about me yet. And yes, he has BPD.

@ladytea You're welcome. And I see what you mean. People with BPD can find trusting people difficult so if you aren't being open with him, he might overthink and worry about not knowing your thoughts. I find I can only have strong relationships with people that are really open and honest with me, otherwise I would always misinterpret how they act or what they say. But you still don't have to open up to them straight away. Maybe being honest about needing more time might help you both?
