Pursuit of Relationship
Hello all.
I do not have BPD, but there is a guy who I have been talking to who does. We dated a few times and have maintained conversation. I am not sure how to interact with it. I mean, as a mental health professional, I know how to accept the person. But I also don't want to be his counselor, nor do I want to feel like I have to walk on eggshells because I'm not sure what to say. I don't know his story or his triggers. I want him to be open with me, and I with him, but when he is, he apologizes and pulls away. And then I don't want to share my stuff because I'm afraid he would take it wrong or hurt himself. He's hurt himself because of conversations we have had before. I need perspective from those in it and support on how a relationship might work. I'm new to dating in general, so, kind of don't know what I'm doing there either.
@WAtoNC just be careful since they are so fragel i had a ex bf back in 2016 who had border line personality disorder it was a really toxic relationship

I believe they are capable of healthy relationships. I just don't know how to navigate the relationship (and if it truly is possible to have a healthy relationship with them - especially with my history.)
