A Great Book on Personality Disorders: Helpful Descriptions and Treatment

Hi, everyone!

I hope all is well over here. Resources for personality disorders may seem scarce and overwhelming when searching around the internet. It may be difficult to admit you need help, but doing so is the first step. If that is why you're here, congratulations on taking your first step towards recovery! If you're still a bit wary, that's perfectly fine as well. Regardless, it's easy to get lost in seas of links and books that may or may not be advantageous to your recovery. However, there is one resource that I've found to be very helpful in my search for personality disorder help.

Borderline, Narcissistic, and Schizoid Adaptations: The Pursuit of Love, Admiration, and Safety by Elinor Greenburg, PhD, discusses personality disorders not as an end-all-be-all diagnosis, but as adaptations to life around us. We develop these adaptations as defense mechanisms based on our experiences; everyone can develop these adaptations in their lives. Recognizing these habits as adaptations rather than full diagnoses can help to absolve stigma surrounding "difficult" personality disorders. Our diagnoses are only stepping-off points; they shape our treatment. In understanding why we react in certain ways, we can expedite treatment. Greenburg delves deep into why certain practices are archaic and why people with personality adaptations should be approached with care. The book, while meant for other practitioners, is incredibly easy-to-read, with language that any consumer can understand.

The only downfall of this book is its price. It is hard - or impossible - to find it for a price lower than what is listed at the Amazon link above. If you can afford the book, I would highly suggest purchasing it if you feel you could benefit from it based on my description, Amazon's description, and the reviews mentioned on the website. If not, I have read this book and would be willing to discuss what I've learned from it; feel free to connect with me at any time!

Though it may not be easy to find the best resources regarding personality disorders, Greenburg's book makes it much easier.
