Beneath the Ashes, I Dream.
Two years ago, I found myself haunted by nightmares nearly every night. Those experiences left me feeling wide awake, shaken, and at times, utterly silent. I can still recall those vivid dreams, but I’ve come to realize that I no longer live in fear of them. Through the journey of confronting my fears and embracing my emotions, I’ve grown and transformed.
I’ve managed to turn those dark moments into something meaningful by expressing them in words. It’s a testament to resilience, and I hope others find comfort in knowing they are not alone in their struggles.
Here’s a piece I wrote that captures my journey from light to darkness and back again through dreaming:

Dreams Reclaimed
I used to dream of gentler things
Of skies not bound by air,
Of sunsets painted with soft wings,
And magic everywhere.
I dreamt of places far from pain,
Where stars would dance for me,
Where laughter echoed like warm rain
And hearts were always free.
But dreams, they vanished silently,
Replaced by shadows deep
A silent war inside of me
That even stole my sleep.
Now monsters wear familiar skin,
And chase me in the night,
Each one a fear I held within,
Now begging me to fight.
There was a prince, once in my mind,
A savior from my doom
But even he, I came to find,
Was just a dream too soon.
Now every night brings darker things,
Like demons I once hid.
They speak in broken lullabies
Of all the things I did.
I thought I’d always be confined,
No door, no light to see.
But chains, I learned, are mostly tied
By who we let us be.
And so I closed my eyes again
Not to escape or flee,
But to rewrite what I once feared...
And dream to set me free.

I still remember the nightmares, but now, I remember them without fear. They were part of my journey, not the end of it. If you’re stuck in the dark right now, hold on. The light doesn’t always come crashing in...Sometimes, it returns quietly: the moment you dare to dream again.
