Desperate to Be Kept
I reach, I cling, I fear the fall,
A whispered word, I need them all.
Do you still love me? Are you near?
Silence feeds my greatest fear.
A message sent, a call ignored,
My mind’s a storm, my heart is sore.
What did I say? Did I go wrong?
An echo lingers all night long.
I give too much, yet feel so small,
A hollow space, I fear it all.
If love drifts far, will I survive?
Without their warmth, am I alive?
I mold myself to fit their need,
A fragile soul that bends and bleeds.
Don’t leave, don’t go, I’ll change, I swear,
Just love me back, just show you care.
Each heartbeat loud, a desperate plea,
Why can’t love come more easily?
I fear their loss, yet chase them still,
A cycle spun against my will.
But love is not a chain to hold,
Nor hands so tight they can't let go.
One day I'll learn, one day I'll see,
That love should set, not capture me.
