Fading Words & Before We Drifted
Fading Words
(Inspired by Gracie Abrams – I Love You, I’m Sorry) 🎵 🎶
I spoke my heart in quiet tones,
But you left me there, all on my own.
Words I whispered, lost in air,
You were there—but unaware.
A season ago, I begged you to see,
That love was more than just "let it be."
You held your walls so high, so strong,
And I held on—but not for long.
You're in your world, I’m locked outside,
You never cared how much I tried.
A love like this, a waiting game,
Yet you and I were not the same.
I told myself, "It’s not that bad,"
But silence made the love we had
A hollow space, a vacant home,
A love that left me all alone.
And now I know, it wasn't me—
Your heart was never truly free.
I love you still, but not the way
That begs for you to want to stay.
So trust me now, I know it's done,
No more battles left to run.
I close the door, I won’t look back,
I loved you once—but not like that.

Before We Drifted
(Inspired by Lord Huron – The Night We Met) 🎵 🎶
Take me back to that first spark,
When everything still felt so stark—
The moments before we lost our way,
When love was something we would say.
I once had all of you, but then,
The distance grew, and so did the end.
A quiet silence turned our light,
Turning daydreams into endless night.
What was I meant to do with this?
This love that’s wrapped in emptiness.
I held onto echoes, fading slow,
The traces of a love you couldn’t show.
If only we had stopped to breathe,
Not rushed for answers, lost to greed.
But hearts don’t wait, they learn through pain,
And mine would never be the same.
So let me linger in that place—
Before the time we lost our grace,
When we were only starting, still—
Take me back to where we were, still.

@strawberryshine Both of these pieces are really good. The way you capture the ache of love slipping away—so gentle yet so devastating—hits deep. Fading Words carries that bittersweet realization of letting go while Before We Drifted holds onto the longing for what once was. Your imagery and rhythm pull the reader in...making them feel every whispered word and quiet heartbreak.
Also.... I love both the songs! Though I don’t listen to Gracie Abrams much... I Love You, I’m Sorry and I Miss You, I’m Sorry are beautiful. And The Night We Met? I can’t even listen to it—Lord Huron basically bottled up tears and sprayed the whole song with them💔😭✨
And.... I gotta say—you have a good taste in music (which, of course, means I do too😌🎶)
Thank you so much ❤️🙏🏾
