I hide inside my brain
I hide inside my brain
Fat and covered in slimly, pink, worms
Decades old and still it withstands.
But down beneath the goopy ridges,
Right when things turn smooth,
There’s a thumping into the thoughtless silence.
A constant, painful, Ba-dum Ba-dum Ba-dum
And would that hideous noise become louder
I could no longer hide my ugly pearl
Fingers would pry it from my brain-
Squishing out of the walnut center-
And scattering the slimy, pink, worms.
And then it would be revealed to the light-
My beasty pearl in the hands of the gods.
And I would reach with gooey fingers-
I would yank it back, brains dripping down my face
And shove it back into that wormy hole.
And while the crowd looks with horrified eyes
I will close the hole with thorny stitches
And poke my skin until they cry.
Because I don’t care if they think I’m crazy-
I won’t let them find out I hid my heart inside my brain

Wow.
🥺
So thought provoking!
Hiding how we truly feel.
Not letting our hearts feel what it needs to.
Say we are ok, when our head is screaming for us to say otherwise.
Shut off.
Stoic.
Never complaining.
Always smiling
This poem speaks to me about the need for us to stop saying we are ok, stop painting on the smile, stop letting our hearts be empty, speak up, tell the whole, ugly, honest truth, the truth matters!
Thank you.
Well written!
