My first poem..?
I haven't written poetry — or anything, really — in a long time, and on a whim I decided to try it out again. please give me grace as I am confident in the fact that this is not that good — and that's okay, it's a learning process. I just wanted to try it out and see what you guys thought (:
I'm Not a Poet
I'm not a poet
I don't have the patience
The words seem to run
I define complacence
And I haven't the time
I'd never be done
Though there's so much,
So much to write about
But I'm not a poet
I can't capture it
Or find the words
And I'd shout
But would I be heard?
I could scream
For all these surreal scenes
Sunlight engulfing a crowded street
Worn out jeans
Love lined concrete
And the greetings of trees
But I'm not a poet
I can't find the words
And it's hard to see
I'm not a poet
Though if I were
I'd write letters on love
and those sent from above
I'd have the words
Maybe I'd write of pain
Or the comfort of rain
The familiarity of cold
And never growing old
But I'm not a poet
And the page is aflame
No, I'm not a poet
I couldn't be
I'm nothing interesting
And the words seem to flee
Never truly nesting
I'm running out of time
I can't align
It must be me
I can't write
I resign —
No longer can I blame the words
I am not right
And I won't be heard

this poem is SO GOOD!!!!!!!!! i know you wrote "im not a poet", but YOU SHOULD BE!! I love the rhyming, and the short lines which bounce to different topics as you keep reading. it keeps the reader interested, and it is quite an interesting name that makes people wonder why you wrote a poem without being a poet, which is exactly what a title should do- pull the reader in!
keep writing poetry!
