One of many available cues

There were Briars everywhere. They threaded through my room, my kitchen, crowded the windows in thick tangles. They clung to whatever they touched. One morning I had to rescue my dog because she was caught-little green teeth caught in her pale fur. After that, I had to drag the morning loose as well. It didn't fare as well as the dog. Blood -the dewy, bluish-green blood so indicative of morning-dotted the carpet. When you found me, or when you were found, neither of us could tell anymore, it was in the briars. We looked at each another and tried to speak. But every word was caught immediately, its meaning torn away with it. How still the world looked, as though this was always the way it was supposed to happen. How, once looking eas captured too, we could still feel that stillness moving beneath everything. How it felt like a hum.
