Selfish
What is wrong with me?
Giving is better than getting,
but my selfish mind thinks
No it's not.
I take one seed
for a flower I can't take care of on my own.
But then,
I take three more,
Just so I look like I can handle it.
When in reality,
nobody cares what I take.
Fill your cup first!
They say, but mine is overflowing.
Give me this!
I want that!
I need this!
I need that!
I need all of everything,
no matter shape nor size nor age.
I want all the things,
quicker than I can
turn a
page.
Give me this!
Give me that!
My cup will not be full!
It's a bottomless pit;
Nothing can truly fit,
So for Godsake,
Give me all of it!

Selfishness is kind of a DNA programmed and natural state of being. It's an impulse that calls for guilt free management, as there's no need to feel guilty for having drives provided to us by nature.
Over time, most humans evolve, and selfishness diminishes, but I doubt it ever goes away. In fact, I'm pretty sure some measure of it's important to have in order to remember to take care of ourselves.
Another helpful perspective is to consider that we're all connected to the extent that we can take pleasure in another's good fortune, as though that good thing is also happening to us.
We "need" all of everything, but having everything would lead to boredom and lost hope. Some call it "hedonistic adaptation." That's when whatever you have, and no matter how much you gain, it's never enough.
Materialism is a trap.
A billionaire wakes up and immediately obsesses over some acquisition or financial threat. They've forgotten the experience of gratitude or contentment. Fragments of happiness come with gritted teeth and avarice. There's nothing to look forward to except for more of the same.
A homeless person wakes up and feels whole hearted joy over coffee and a donut.
Who's life is richer?
