The Cost of Healing

March 17th, 2025

I trace the echoes of love once bright,

Now dimmed beneath the weight of night.

A voice asks softly, “Are you free?”

A question wrapped in mystery.

“Now I am.” The words escape,

A truth unshackled, yet still draped

In longing, loss, and things unsaid,

A heart unhealed, a tear unshed.

I cast my words like stones to sea,

Seeking answers endlessly.

“I feel like a failure,” I confess,

A heavy heart in brokenness.

I gave too much, I lost my way,

Forgetting love should start and stay

Within myself, a fire to keep,

Not one to give until I weep.

A therapist’s chair, a costly toll,

A price to mend a weary soul.

Broke in pocket, broke in heart,

Yet longing still for a fresh restart.

“I want to be secure,” I cry,

“I hate the fear that won’t subside.”

Yet in these words, a light breaks through—

A voice of strength, a path anew.

So here I stand, alone yet whole,

A fragile but resilient soul.

No longer lost in love confined,

But learning now to love my mind.

@strawberryshine This is such a beautifully raw and deeply human piece, Strawberryshine. Your words carry the weight of love, loss and the long journey toward healing with such tenderness and honesty. The struggle between giving too much and finding the strength to keep something for yourself is something many of us feel but rarely put into words so poignantly. The imagery of casting words like stones to the sea—seeking answers, feeling like a failure—resonates deeply. And yet.... there’s hope woven into the pain, a quiet strength breaking through the cracks. Healing is costly...both in heart and pocket, but your poem reminds us that even in brokenness, we are not beyond repair. A soul both fragile and strong... still standing, still growing—and that is a triumph in itself.
