The Final Word
I wrote a letter in the quiet night,
Not for him—but for my heart’s light.
Not to beg, nor to turn back time,
But to lay down what once was mine.
A weight unspoken, a guilt so deep,
Questions that robbed me of my sleep.
Did I love enough? Did I fall too fast?
Did I fight for something never meant to last?
I sought no answers, no plea, no call,
Just the truth I carried through it all.
To say, I tried, I gave, I bled,
And now I leave with nothing unsaid.
Not a hand stretched out, not a door ajar,
Not a whisper left in an empty jar.
Only silence, still and true,
The kind that heals and lets me through.
So now I stand, unchained, untied,
No ghosts to chase, no tears to hide.
For this wasn’t for him, it was for me—
To close the past, and set me free.

@strawberryshine your poems speak clearly the sad harsh words what heartbreak brings. You express yourself so well through your poems💖 hugs you tightly 💗💗
@strawberryshine
The emotion behind your poem comes through very powerfully, and I see echoes of your other piece 'A Love across the miles'. Your poem feels like a soliloquy spoken to the aether, a message that looks for catharsis or closure yet does not seem to reach either. I think that is what adds such depth to the feelings you display.
The rhyming couplet pairs in each stanza work really well and help create the sense of ideas and feelings being examined and worked through in succession. The whole poem feels carefully crafted, and it is very sad to read. Thank you for sharing it with us all.
