The Real Smile
Curtains open, audience ready, lights over a 'business suite' -
Like every Tuesday nights, over a 'flourishing' temple.
Yes! The same temple bustled by single-way arrows in pursuit,
Harnessing black hoods hidden in color of bittersweet people.
The temple where 'chocolate' as currency and attire of unlit pair of boot
'Purchases' dreams by wishing in ample
To the beautified Stone, the 'Master of Fruit'-
In an eternal temporary face shadowed by 'these' costumers.
Nevertheless, my legs walked the length of this Nether,
My brain though with reactance drifted through the circuit:
Main-gate to pathway, pathway to stairs,
Stairs to the doors and doors opened in 'Factory'.
Yes, a factory! A factory where are trees
'Systematically' slaughtered with machine line of creepers -
Like in chill, moon ashen unaware behind pervasive mists.
Following the door, a line of people fallen for bait
Stretched in this open rattrap, where to 'Cheese Executive',
Its mice bows, paying souls and buying hopes
On grounds about to collapse
Caused by tectonic plates abnormal
Owing to the darkened light oscillating high,
And broken will lie the buildings
built on delicate feathers.
Coldly past crossing all the processes involved,
A path back to the doors I started reflecting
Grazing the theories of clown
On which great tigers surrender.
Funny! great chimps lording over 'lotuses'
Stood defeated by.......
A Stone! A talismanic Boulder!
Upon reaching the doors, I glimpsed over a man -
A tall 'man' carrying on his head
An expanse of closed-open lands vast
But shrouded the stayed the boundaries by the eerie forest.
And ew! 'Tobaccofied' rabbit teeth and eyes-
Eyes hiding his de Broglie nature
When they catches the first person insane.
Wait-wai-........Oh! Streams flood in
From the neighborhood primeval
Where I glanced the last drying rills
Of my childhood entropic
Burning under effulgence of the sun
Lost under the thunderous dark clouds.
Moments struck of the man as he
In his diplomatic fervors used to accompany us
In ties familiar in the locality my mind idealizes still.
My egg-tail pairers who went with me to this Dol Guldor -
Or should say unfortunately I went with them-
Talked to this baldly uncle, devoid of hair and 'its tip'.
Finishing up, his lenses caught my eyes
Like dark sparkling meets another dark dull.
But seeing time slipping so hard, less talks
Accompanied with hand shakes, the man bade
With cheeks overly-stretching , a smile so expiry.
Doodles 'A Zorua!' my mind, thinking
A walrus mustache on a rabbit mouth,
And jaggery grown in thirty-two mills.
Though hid annoyance behind my poker face,
Still not a Zoroark, my emotionless gaze.
Can't even light upon this joker face
Created by eyes and nose
Beneath a dry garden, and not to forget-
The role of 'A Fake Smile'.
Further rolls the camera,
Crossing past the draught,
Stair by stair, stairs to the door,
Doors leading to a gravelly path,
Open outside the main-gate,
And follows a road, leading to the car.
But wait!..........Another call!
One level flames cooling hopelessly
Under the ashes of the second and third
And exempted brooding under
The almighty house of fourths;
He was in a blue dirty dress,
Carried a weak sack adding to weight
On his back unfortunate.
A 'salesman' he is from a different business
Selling toys and joy, cutting life for his kinsmen
Outside the temple where 'they' believe
Are set the equations.
Not only the peels, for the seeds
Also expresses his swollen grief
Seeming slight madness of mind in his body skinny
And mental constitution in his vocal stature unclear
plus the ungroomed profound grey hairs
Adding to lost equilibrium in his legs weaker.
Alas! more fearful feelings for this friend
Whom parents deemed to be another neighbor
From the same place where my innocence hurt dead.
Perhaps life took a harsh turn
And took him to roads dusty
From flourishing city streets
And made his dailies D-days
Struggling every now taming his tummy.
May the Stone gets him his daily bread!
That day when our trajectories met
With his ends still unmet, he came calling worriedly
No toys sold that day, no rupee earned
From the people wasting 'chocolates' unnecessarily.
It had something different in it,
A call full of verities it was,
A deep desperation to eat so daunting.
At once these all moved me and at second
It made the exchanges in our pockets
And sold me a memory tightly instilled
In my forgetful Compact Disc still working.
The act of his shaky hands accepting
Eruption tonight of my 'sheepness' unexpected
And his broken voice telling something out of reach.
But his sparkling eyes, like stars twinkling
Fallen on island, covered this instant within seawater sweet
And his smile bringing in the comfort
Pouring Miruvor endlessly from heavens
In my translucent glass too small to hold it all -
The wonderful expression unable to stay complete
In my eyes - conveyed it all.
More than a month passed now
Till today, the day of its scripting
And still transparently my mind thinks of it -
The alive eyes, the hopeful smile, the soothing expression-
The only one pearl amongst flashbacks of
All the dreary shells.
Now its time for curtains to close
But every Tuesday, they open again eagerly
In these strong 'chilly winds',
Just for the tinge of this warm latent
Lurking soulfully behind 'The Real Smile'.

Many references used may not be known or understood by you. You can ask freely , I would love to explain.
@Orange64 Okay, Orange… One thing I love about poetry (aside from the emotions and stories behind it) is the imagery and references. After reading this, I can confidently say that you write like... the child of Kafka and T.S. Eliot who became a poet and also worked in corporate—and that’s a compliment.
I’ll admit... I didn’t catch every reference but I love a good challenge. I’ll be back with a deeper analysis after I unravel more of it. But even from a brief reading, your poem feels like a labyrinth of striking imagery and layered emotions, weaving a tale that is both deeply personal and universally resonant (capitalism, materialism, and societal struggles) The contrast between material facades and quiet struggles is painted with intricate metaphors—The stone, the factory, the Chocolate currency—all carrying profound weight. Your diction is wonderfully unique, blending sharp realism with dreamlike surreality. The structure itself mirrors the winding paths of memory and reflection, pulling the reader through its journey. Thank you for sharing such a deeply felt and vividly crafted experience.
@azurePond Thanks for reading. Even a quick glance at it means a lot.
And one thing about chocolate, its a less used local informal word in some middle-northern parts of my country. It is related to an invisible or maybe sometimes illegal way of money exchanges. Jokingly, for example, its like two persons contracted to meet in an isolated place at night and then both will come hiding from people from different directions . Then both will be together for a short time and one person will say , 'Quickly place the chocolate in my pocket'. And both will take different ways as if nothing happened.
And more thing. Now I want to read Elliot's poems , lol. I will check out his work after exams.
@Orange64 That’s really interesting! I had no idea - chocolate - could have that kind of meaning but I guess it makes sense—money seems to have all sorts of regional nicknames. Dough, chocolate… no wonder investors say not to put all your eggs in one basket—turns out everything is actually cake..haha!!
Whenever you have some free time, check out T.S. Eliot—especially The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. And if you're up for a challenge, then The Waste Land.
@azurePond Lol and that cake made with lemon won't turn out to be good easily.
I will do check out these poems. Thanks
@Orange64 🤣🤣 (But lemon cheesecakes are good.. or maybe it is just me)
@azurePond You are correct. As I focus on eating rather than cooking hehe , I thought lemon is added with milk, which is hard i g to make it correct. Now, as I searched on google milk isnt added . lol
But lemon ice-cream is a real challenge I guess. Lol
(Tho there is no problem in adding lemon with milk to make a cake in a poem hehe)
