I chose to Survive

They didn’t see the storm inside,

Brushed my tears with a passive sigh.

Called my bruises fiction, lies

But I bled truth in lullaby.

The spoon fell. The knife stayed clean.

The silence cracked but didn’t scream.

I swallowed rage like kerosene,

Then lit a fire beneath my dream.

They called me names I wore them all.

Each syllable a bitter scrawl.

But I stitched poems on every wall,

In ink and hurt, I learned to crawl.

Not a hero, not divine,

Just a shadow who refused to di_e.

I kissed the scars, made peace with time,

And danced with ghosts I used to hide.

I screamed to God—got no reply.

So I built temples in my mind.

If angels sleep, then I’ll defy,

Be my own wings and learn to fly.

I don’t need your glassy stares.

Keep your doubts and plastic prayers.

I am thunder. I am flares.

And I’ll rise with unmatched flair.

Don’t believe me? That’s just fine.

Watch me climb without your spine.

I’ll paint my joy on every line

My pulse, my pain, my soul. all mine.

You said I’d snap. You almost won.

But here I am, beneath this sun.

Tired, torn, but far from done

I am the war you thought was none.

So when I cry, it won’t be shame.

I cry like sky cries down the rain.

To wash the blood, to clear the name

To grow the roots from all this pain.

And if I fall again someday?

I’ll curse the dark, but rise anyway.

‘Cause I believe in me not them

I am my start, my end, my gem.
