Wishes in a Well
Wishes in a well,
Whispers you can't tell.
Folded into silver light,
Tossed beyond the edge of night.
Not just luck but something true,
A secret the stars might answer to.
So before you let the silence disperse,
What's carved on the coin you drop in the universe?
@BlueDarkAurora I think this is the first poem of yours I’ve read, Aurora, and like you — and your username — it carries a signature mysticism holding the universe within just a few lines. Truly beautiful! I especially loved how the imagery of wishes folded into silver light and cast into the cosmos transforms a simple act into something mythic. The closing question lingers beautifully.... turning the reader inward: What do we truly ask of the universe?
A haunting, graceful meditation on hope, mystery and intention.

Omg Aurora This poem captures a sense of mystery and longing, speaking to the act of making wishes and the quiet hopes we send out into the universe✨✨✨🌷like it ,
For me hmm the coin might represent moments of self reflection, the silent prayers I have for growth or guidance, and the quiet ambitions I hold close. These wishes or intentions aren’t just fleeting thoughts; they are parts of what I truly want to manifest in my life.
@Tulipsmile :D Thank you<3 I'm really happy you like it.
Your coin has so many beautiful things on it and I wish you the best of luck with everything. I hope all your manifestations come true in the best way<3

*Smiles in extreme delight at your poem* I am very impressed. The rhyming pairs, soft word choices, and gradually growing syllabic line length gives the whole piece a gentle sibilant feel that carries the theme of whispered wishes. They seem to unroll gradually, moving from the personal intimacy of the private wish before quietly moving into more cosmic relevance.
There is a haunting melancholy about it too; a level of privacy that we catch the briefest glimpse of before it disappears. I think the metaphor of the well and that of night sky is so evocative. One can imagine the stillness, pinpricks of light disjointed into soundless ripples at the passing of the coin/dream/wish beneath their surface that is both water and a more eternal void. It is beautiful, and artfully developed.
The end couplet is a wonderful mirroring of the first; A personal wish that is hushed/unspoken before it is dropped into the well is contrasted with the entreaty to the reader to speak what is on their own coin before the "silence disperses". It is an intriguing end to the poem as it at first sounds like an optimistic reaching out, but can perhaps also be read as a pleading request from the narrator who has pinned their hopes upon the ephemeral. Beautiful, yet sad.
Diggin' the imagery in this...it's nicely meshed in the verses, too.
However, the "coin" I would drop in the universe at large would be blank on both sides. I stopped making wishes a long time ago.
@slowdecline48 Thank you 💕
Did you stop because you don't believe or because you don't wish for anything?
